MLK Day of Service - Jan 16th, 2012

Happy Holidays, Bay Area Community!

At his inauguration in 2009, President Barack Obama declared Martin Luther King Jr. Day a national day of service. No other gesture could be more fitting to honor the dream and legacy of Dr. King. The African American Art & Culture Complex (AAACC) is the host site and hub for this amazing event, held Monday, January 16, 2012. We invite you to get fired up, round up some friends and give back in honor of Dr. King!

The Gist

Monday, January 16, 2012 volunteers meet at the AAACC - 762 Fulton Street @ Webster (SF) *This is an all ages event. We have projects even the little ones can do. Bring the whole family!*

Tentative Schedule:

8:45am-9:15am - Breakfast and volunteer sign-up
9:15am-9:30am - Rally featuring special invited guests
9:30am-10:00am travel to volunteer destination by shuttle bus
10:00am-12:30pm - VOLUNTEER for as long as you like
12:30pm-1:00pm - Return to AAACC
1:00pm-3:00pm - Volunteer Rally- BBQ, Entertainment and more!

So...

Please consider the following ideas:

* Individual Service- one is the magic number! we welcome all who have the heart to come and serve. :)
* Volunteer as a team- (can be Frats, Sororities, Collectives, families, book clubs, work groups, board members, etc.)
* Hosting a Volunteer Site or Project (We are taking applications for facilities that could use some yard work, light painting, etc.: preferably, senior homes, community  based facilities, clinics, etc. If there is a project or facility, that does not fit the initial preference, please email me and we will determine if your project is a fit)
*Letter Writing Campaign- We are sending love letters this year! In the spirit of community and love we are sending Valentine's Day cards to those who might not receive a love note for the Valentine holiday. If you are more of a sit and chill type, this might be the project for you! (Also, preferable for those who have injuries that might hinder participation in the other more physical volunteer projects)
