We Support Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi – Sign On-line Petition
Sent by Tami Bryant
On 03/20/12 Mayor Lee suspended our democratically elected Sheriff, Ross Mirkarimi.  Sheriff Mirkarimi worked tirelessly on our behalf as our Supervisor, and won the election to take his good work city wide. We all know that successful re-entry into the community is vital for public safety, and Sheriff Mirkarimi has the experience and commitment to maintain and expand these policies as Sheriff.  We urge you to sign and share the petition to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors in support of Sheriff Mirkarimi.
Thank you

Guardian Op-Ed: Domestic violence, a Latina feminist perspective

By Myrna Melgar
Myrna Melgar is a Latina survivor of childhood domestic violence, a feminist, and a mother of three girls.
Eliana Lopez is my friend. I have asked for her permission to put into words, in English, some observations, thoughts and insights reached during our many conversations these past few weeks about her experience with San Francisco's response to the allegation of domestic violence by her husband, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi. We hope this will lead to a teachable moment for law enforcement and anti-domestic-violence advocates about cultural sensitivity — and will lead to honest discussions about the meaning of empowerment of women.  (Please follow link to read entire op-ed)

Congratulation to our five (5) Sunshine Candidates for winning the board seats.  Thank you for your commitment and ideals.  Together with the four current seated board directors, Rosie Bennett, Robin Danridge, Gideon Tesfaye, and Thetius Pinkard.  We look forward to working together as a strong cohesive team to advance the interest for our Freedom West residents and to do what's needed to be done as fast as possible.  We thank the people outside Freedom West who in the past two years gave us invaluable advice, concern, and encouragement in our struggle to improve our community.  Finally and most importantly, we thank the entire Freedom West community for its overwhelming support and trust for our candidates who will do everything possible to bring our promises to fruition.
