Hello All,
I'm pleased to report that at last night's District 7 meeting, the Redistricting Task Force members placed Westside Courts, Nichiren Buddhist Church, St. Francis Xavier Japanese Catholic Church, Chibi-chan Preschool and the Japantown Community Youth Center all into District 5. These are the neighborhoods and community resources the Fillmore-Japantown group has been fighting for.
We also saw the line between District 7 and District 11 changed to keep our community in the OMI together as discussed in our Black Consensus meetings. In their map making, the RTF members acted with a clear sense of purpose, no doubt guided by the prudent case we made concerning our community of interests in the Western Addition and OMI, our maps showing how to keep us together and all those who spoke out on these issues, either by mail or in person during public comment. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.
The final map has not been drawn yet and we could lose all that we've gained if we are not persistent in advocating for the changes we've won and supporting the RTF in their decisions that favor us and our community.
Please plan on attending the 10 AM Saturday, March 17th RTF meeting at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center at 1050 McAllister to thank the task force for adopting out northern boundary as their own and encourage them to keep this boundary in their final map.
Thanks, again.
JMorgan, M.D.
